Cognitive Trends in Robotics
Michael ZILLICH
(Institute of Automation and Control, Vienna University of Technology)
Robotics has been influenced by cognitive science from its early days on.
After early attempts at autonomous robots based on symbolic AI proved unable to cope with the complexity and unpredictability of the real world, several strands of research reconsidered lessons to be learned from biological systems. This lecture we will given an overview over the developmental or embodied perspective as well as the cognitive systems perspective in robotics. We will also look at some historical examples, and their implications for cognitive science.
